Haloween.. is almost here... Spooky Fun

The scariest night of the year. All around the world, people celebrate spookiness.

On 31 October there are loads of Halloween traditions. If you go to a party, expect stuff like:
  • Scary fancy dress
  • Making pumpkin lanterns
  • Trick or treating
  • Bobbing for apples
  • Telling ghost stories
But not everyone agrees with Halloween. Some religious people believe that making a game out of evil spirits and witches is wrong.

  • The British Council site has a spooky language game.. with Halloween words....want to try it?
  • A haunted house has lots of scary things in it - ghosts, skeletons and lots more! Can you find objects in the haunted house? Click on level 1 or level 2
  •
  • And A Halloween story: The Magic Spell.
  • Billy and Tom are pretending to be wizards. They are making a magic potion. Watch, read and listen to the story. Will the magic spell work?
  • Have you finished the story? Print an activity to do (164KB)
  • Here you can read about Halloween from Around the World
  • The New York Times has a spooky slide show about Halloween with great photos!
  • How to videos about Halloween at Videojug
  • Halloween postcards
Now, it's your turn.. these are great resources for you to write your own Halloween post. What are you waiting for? Go ahead and don't forget to let me know and your classmates you posted about Halloween.

Keep on shining Love and Peace..even on Halloween night... giggles!

Beds Are Burning - TckTckTck Campaign (time4climatejustice)

    Taken from Wikipedia...

On October 2 2009, 60 musicians and celebrities from around the world released a free reworked version to highlight climate change issues ahead of the United Nation's talks in Copenhagen. Singers included Lily Allen, Simon Le Bon from the '80s group Duran Duran and Bob Geldof. The former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and French actress Marion Cotillard also added their voices to the cover version. The song is part of Global Humanitarian Forum tck tck tck time for climate justice campaign and is a part of the greater "TckTckTck" project[3], which aims to draw attention to the urgency of the global warming crisis, by signing a "musical petition" with each download.

It's for the Earth is for our land........! Let's sing it out loud! keep on shining Love and Peace!

Blog Action Day is here! This is an excellent documentary... beautiful to watch and will help us understand what's going on with climate change. Venezuela Yought Orchestra continues to amaze the world

    gtltornt9
    Uploaded by gtltornt

Our Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela participated at the Proms 2007. But, what was this Proms 2007? ... Well, according to Wikipedia:

The Proms (also more formally known as The BBC Proms, or The Henry Wood Promenade Concerts presented by the BBC) is an eight-week summer season of daily orchestral classical music concerts and other events held annually, predominantly in the Royal Albert Hall in South Kensington, London, United Kingdom.

This was the program that wonderful night:
    Shostakovich
Symphony No. 10 in E minor (45 mins)
    Interval
    Bernstein
West Side Story - Symphonic Dances (22 mins)
    Moncayo
    Huapango (8 mins)
    Márquez
    Danzón No. 2 (9.5 mins)
    Ginastera
    Estancia - Suite (12 mins)
Simón Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela
    Gustavo Dudamel conductor

Let's listen to Dudamel talk about the orchestra:

Reading the reviews of the show, I found the following comment:

The most talked about Prom of the season, however, came from the incandescent young conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela (Prom 48), whose unreserved joy and exuberance possibly distilled the essence of the Proms. These young musicians demonstrated just how accessible and enjoyable classical music can be, and it was impossible for anyone, from absolute amateur to academic, to resist being swept up in the tumult of exhilaration, and will remain my most enduring of Proms memories.

This is where the show in the video took place. For more information on this great event, visit the following links:
Now, What do you think about our Orchestra?

    About me!

Hi, there! My name’s Juan Gonzalez but you can call me Juanchi. I’m from Maracaibo, originally. I live in Maracaibo, in Monte Claro. I’m 20 years old and I study engineering at URBE . My favorite subjects are mathematics and English.
I love music , dancing, playing soccer, driving my car (I have a red sport car), surfing the net , studying English, talking on the phone with my friends, pizza , chocolate, my family , my country and my dog. .

I hate onions, smoking, listening to hip hop, getting up early on the weekend, violence, war, injustice, and washing the dishes.

My dream is to travel around the world, visit the Pyramids in Egypt and The Eiffel Tower in Paris. Of course, I want to graduate from Engineering School and be a good engineer. I also want to learn to speak French, and Italian. I’d love to work in an important company and buy a house, get married and start a family.

About English, I love to learn new languages. I think English is very important. I listen to music and watch TV in English. It’s a good exercise. I also chat on the internet and have friends in many countries. I can write well, but I need to practice more. The most difficult for me is speaking. I need to practice more. I hope I can make a lot of friends and practice speaking in this class

    Pionia Has got a blog!

Well, this is our first entry.. I knew Pionia would have to get a blog sooner or later... There are so many interesting things to blog about in Second Life.

Second Life... What's Second Life? many will ask.. According to their site: " Second Life is a free online virtual world imagined and created by its Residents. From the moment you enter Second Life, you'll discover a fast-growing digital world filled with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity."

This is a great short video to tell you some basic things to go for it...

Second Life can be anything you want it to be.. But now, what should and educator do in SL? Play games? have an avatar? aren't those things for kids to play with? ... The answer is yes, and no.. Second Life is for everybody. An educators should profit from this great virtual world and be brave and ship off in an adventure in this new world.

As a matter of fact, They encourage educators to go inworld to meet other educators and learn how to teach classes, network, and interact with students in new and unique ways in the virtual world. The best part is--it's free.

The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), is one of the many vibrant education communities in Second Life, will help you discover education-related areas in Second Life through the New Educator Pilot Program, which offers many benefits and resources including:

    • Live "Docents" volunteer assistance during regularly scheduled hours
    • Scheduled tours, speaker series, and special events
    • Showcased destinations and educational uses of SL
    • Socials to learn from other educators about how they are using SL
    • Tools to enable your educational uses of SL
    • Additional tutorials to help you land on your feet
